Let’s start by talking about the crazy taxi drivers, because that’s the first thing you get thrown into after your long plane ride. The whole driving-on-the-left-side-of-the-road thing is only the start the insanity: tuk tuk and scooter drivers are the real entertainment though.

Next most important item is the food (of course!): salty seafood, spicy salads, and fresh fruit. I can’t say I loved the fried chicken heads my roommate accidentally brought home one night. But the constant availability of fresh herbs, vegetables, and fruits has never left me disappointed. The best part is you can buy your veggies at one stand in the market and your nuts, seasoning, fish, or meats at another. It’s just as convenient as going to an actual grocery store, but you can rest in satisfaction that you are directly supporting your neighbors.

Rice and different types of stir fry are the usual. Or a noodle dish with some mystery balls and squid legs. They also love the spice, so there are always lots of peppers and chills added to everything.

Finally the third most popular topic: weather. I’ve traveled enough to know that everyone everywhere complains about the weather, but let’s be honest; Bangkok’s weather is killer. Since April the temperature has finally cooled down a little. Instead of 100 degrees weather and sunshine, it’s usually a nice 90 degrees, cloudy forecast. Hahah I’m just excited I can take a walk and not feel like I’m having a heat stroke. However, I’ve always been biased to cold weather.
