Hi everyone. My name is Blake and I’m an English teacher at a kindergarten in Thailand. My girlfriend and I are lucky enough to be teachers at the same school in Rayong and it has honestly been the best 4 months of my life.
Teaching in Thailand can be challenging at times – you will face language barriers, undisciplined children and the occasional oddly-attached- at-the- hip kind of parents – but believe me when I say this experience is one that you don’t want to miss out on.
Currently I am teaching ages three to four which means lots of energy, fun activities and singing ‘Old Macdonald’ at least five times a day. Toddlers are definitely difficult but teaching them English is also extremely rewarding.
There is no feeling better than when a student understands the lesson and can walk out of class saying that they learnt something.
Using an element of fun in the classroom has become something I make use of quite often as my kids can easily become distracted but once you can succeed at getting the students excited about English – half the battle is won.
Thai children are very different to what I am used to. They have a hunger to learn, kind spirits and an appreciation for the opportunity to discover a new language that is unheard of at their young age. Every day I am excited to see them grow and I am thrilled to be on this journey with them.
