One thing that many people worry about before coming to Thailand is the accommodation. For someone like me, who had never been to Thailand before, you wonder if you will be living in some magical tree house in the forest without electricity or if you genuinely get the same type of housing that you’re used to.
Another concern is the cost of accommodation. I can tell you from personal experience that housing in Thailand is EXCEPTIONALLY well-priced and has a variety of different options where size, style, locationand price are concerned.
One could easily find an open plan bachelors apartment for 3000-5000thb a month – made even cheaper by sharing with a friend or partner. You can also find a normal one-bedroom apartment for between 4500-6000thb a month.
Currently my boyfriend and I are staying in a one-bedroom condominium with access to a gym and a stunning pool area for 7000thb a month – which we then split – costing us each around 3500thb a month. This is a bargain considering that it isn’t even a 1/6 th of our salary. This makes it very easy to live comfortably in Thailand and still have the capacity to save a lot of your money each month.
The quality of housing in Thailand is also great – you will have everything you need. Most accommodation comes with air-conditioning, WiFi and additional kitchen facilities like a fridge and a stove. You can also find more expensive accommodation if you require extras like a television or a swimming pool which would still not break the bank.
The best way to save on accommodation would be to get a roommate. If you find other teachers at your school that you want to be friends with it could be a great way to connect with people and save on your accommodation costs.
For the most part your school will help you find suitable accommodation and help you to settle in nicely before you start teaching. Be open- minded, relaxed and the rest will come to you.
